HOW TO CREATE A HIT SITCOM

A simple, step-by-step guide to prime time success.

Start drinking early. I don't mean early in the day. I mean early in life. Eight years old oughta do the trick. Heavy drinking isn't necessary. All you need is enough hooch to get through a Cub Scout meeting without tearing your skin off.

Your ability to make the big bucks as a sitcom writer is directly tied to the sickness of your parents. Stop whining to your therapist and send mom and dad a thank you note for royally fucking you up.

Fail to become a member of any group worth joining. Once again, this is something you need to get an early start on. Whether it be athletics, academics or crime, make sure you don't measure up. Social rejection combined with the hard-wired damage done by your folks creates the insecurity and self-loathing necessary for a writer to "know where the funny is."

Nurture your fear of women. Long for them. Ache for them. But always keep in mind that you don't deserve them. If you should happen to get involved with one, always remember: If she loves you there is something fundamentally wrong with her. You just can't see it yet.

Don't start as a sitcom writer. Find something you love more than life itself and then fail at it. Once the reason God put you here has been revealed to be a cruel hoax, you'll be a better team player. Thoroughly defeated people are more inclined to take those tough network notes.

Don't be afraid to experiment with soul-crushing poverty. You'll find yourself ahead of the pack when it comes time to write that warm, family sitcom because you know what it means to enjoy a big bowl of ketchup soup.

Don't cheat yourself out of being a colitis patient in a rundown teaching hospital. Dealing with psychotic sitcom divas is a snap for someone who's had an anesthetic-free colonoscopy in front of twenty giggling med students.

Join a religious cult. Any cult will do. Just make sure they promise you the one thing you desperately need: power over people, places and things. When, after many years and thousands of dollars you still don't have power over your ulcerative colon, become a bitter door-to-door greeting card salesman and patiently await the day when you can sell your cult accessories on eBay.

Marry a woman who is beautiful, kind and loving and encourages you to drink.

Have a kid when you're poor and uninsured. Convincing an OB-GYN and an anesthesiologist to perform a caesarean section on credit is invaluable training for really tense pitch meetings. In fact this is such a helpful exercise, have another kid so you can do it twice.

Walk in the first door that opens. It doesn't matter if it's the door you want. Someone wants you to write shitty Saturday morning cartoons in order to sell a bunch of shitty toys? What do you care? You left your last shred of personal dignity in the teaching hospital. And your kids still don't have medical insurance. Write the damn thing and see if the check bounces. If it doesn't, write as many as you can before they find out you don't have a fucking clue what you're doing.

Ignore your ignorance and make yourself irreplaceable. Work harder than everyone else. If it helps you get through the night, con yourself into thinking that your My Little Pony script will actually impart life lessons to some snot-nosed, lead paint licking kid somewhere.

Eat staggering amounts of condescending shit from condescending assholes who don't have children and whose only hope of getting any is with candy and a panel truck.

Now that you've scratched and clawed your way into a stable, well-paying job writing Saturday morning cartoons, watch passively as your wife runs out and buys a house. There's nothing like a big mortgage to make sure you don't quit a job that has already begun to kill you.

Don't be complacent. A moving target is harder to hit. When the limited animation geniuses go home at night you stay late and write sitcom and drama spec scripts. It doesn't matter if your next job involves writing, "Hey, which one of you kids put a chicken in my pants?" Or, "We caught a floater in the East River. John Doe, shot twice at the base of the skull with a small caliber pistol. Probably a twenty-two." Your goal is to charge through the first open door that has health insurance, residuals and enough prestige to show those dickweeds in high school just how wrong they were about you.

Slowly start to destroy your marriage because of many of the unresolved issues mentioned above.

Now that you're working it's easy to get an agent. Don't dwell on the fact that the little fuckers wanted nothing to do with you when you were unemployed. Get one anyway. It doesn't even matter which one you pick. For the sake of simplicity, take the first one who says they love your writing. Don't get hung up on whether or not they're lying. You'll be firing them soon.

Get your first freelance, sitcom writing assignment for which you are paid the incredible sum of six thousand dollars. Become a proud member of the WGA for the incredible entry fee of six thousand dollars. Attend a 'new members' cocktail party and feel like you've finally joined a club worth belonging to. Enjoy the night immensely because you're blissfully unaware that the next WGA event you'll attend will require you to carry a picket sign.

Roll your freelance success into your first sitcom staff job. Sure it's an embarrassingly silly show, but you don't embarrass easily. You still have vivid memories of playing guitar and singing "Big Bad Leroy Brown" at a Filipino wedding in Long Beach for forty dollars and all the lamb kabob you can eat.

Continue to work harder than anyone else so you can't be fired. Turn in your first script which follows the executive producer's outline beat for beat. Almost get fired. Quickly write another script which follows your instincts and get an atta boy. Learn a priceless lesson that you will ignore over and over again during the course of your career.

Write four scripts in succession that are produced and get paid for none of them because "term writers don't get script fees." This is your first clue that the WGA is not completely on the ball.

Continue to eat condescending shit from condescending assholes while working fifteen to seventeen hours a day and six days a week. Discover the boundless joy of driving home when the sun is coming up. Make friends for life with the aforementioned assholes because you are now one of them.

Drink more. You can afford the good stuff now.

Notice that writers further up the food chain are quitting in frustration. Take this as an opportunity to ask for a promotion. Get one. What the hell, ask for another. Get it. Rise from term writer to supervising producer in two and a half years because you are a glutton for punishment and everyone else quit. Remember the phrase "two and a half" for later use.

After three years of miserable, seventy hour weeks someone at the network belatedly realizes that when the premise of a show is two men who have never met agreeing to live together and raise the daughter of a dead woman they both slept with twelve years ago because either one of them could be the little girl's father but no one wants to go to the trouble of taking a blood test, the show should be cancelled.

Facing unemployment, fight to get on a hit show that everyone else is fighting to get off of because the star, while undeniably talented, has a few personal issues not to mention a coke-addicted boyfriend she just made executive producer. Consider the shit you've lived through and think, "How tough could it be?"

Quickly discover that working on this show causes you to look back at the anesthetic-free colonoscopy with fond nostalgia. Sign non-disclosure forms that threaten you with dismissal and legal action if you tell anyone the truth about what actually goes on there.

Take more abuse than you ever considered possible but hang in there for two years and fifty episodes because you're making more money in a week than your father made in a year. Think to yourself, "The suffering and sacrifice of my ancestors is redeemed through my success," in order to avoid thinking, "If I'm a whore, does that make my agent a mack daddy?"

Become single again and, after an initial surge of joy and freedom, discover that she was not the reason for your misery. Oh, well, no time for self-reflection now, you're on your path to creating a hit sitcom!

Quit drinking. For almost a whole day.

Roughly nine years after walking through that first door, finally get a chance to create your hit sitcom. But it won't really be yours. You have no creative clout. Your employers have lots of clout so, ignoring the priceless lesson, rely on their series premise, their casting choices and their comic instincts. Your hit sitcom is cancelled in five weeks. Your employer calls it a "noble failure", but noble isn't the word used in any of the reviews. The word putrid is used twice.

Get back on your feet by pitching a single-camera film comedy based on Douglas Adam's "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency." Your employers think it's a swell idea but instead want you to write a sitcom about a blue collar single mom on videotape. You see little room for compromise.

Write a heart-warming script about an heroic single mom who struggles against overwhelming odds to raise her children and make a new life for herself. Fail to take into account that the gal cast by your employers to play mom, hates kids, hates people, hates sitcoms and, most importantly, hates you.

Wake up to discover you have created a hit sitcom and Ralph's doesn't sell enough Stoli to ease the pain. Find yourself looking back at the bent superstar and her twitchy consort with fond nostalgia.

Quit the hit show you created and get right to work creating another hit sitcom for another wack-job diva because you are just plain stupid. Get fired from your second hit show because the co-star wins a fucking Emmy... and you're stupid.

FINALLY learn from your mistakes and create a hit show with wonderful, loving people. Late in the second season during a rehearsal suddenly realize they are not going to hurt you.

Stop drinking.

Marry again. This time to a beautiful, warm and loving woman who encourages you to drink water.

Write a half dozen pilot scripts that are used as landfill. Write and produce three busted pilots in a row because you think you know what's wrong with TV comedy, but are really still stupid.

Then, when you're about to quit the business in disgust, write a pilot script with an old friend. Not because you like him. No one really likes him. Write it because he has two young kids, dental problems that would scare English people, and if he doesn't write something quickly he'll lose his WGA health insurance, which is something you know about. Anyway, a script is written and when it's time to come up with a title, the phrase "two and a half" effortlessly floats into your consciousness.

To everyone's surprise and delight, the script attracts an incredibly talented, easy-going, warm and generous star. The star attracts a green light. Green lights attract Jimmy Burrows. He has script notes. You have creative clout now, ignore them.

Brilliant, sane actors join the cast. A young boy who was obviously a world-class actor in a previous life and is simply picking up where he left off makes the whole thing feel like it's really going to happen.

A group of extraordinary writers overlook that you're a condescending asshole pummeling them with condescending shit and help you make a great pilot. Great pilots get killer time slots. Killer time slots get lots of viewers. Lots of viewers are required for a sitcom to be considered a hit... if the viewers come back week after week.

They come back.

Drive to your big, fancy house in your big, fancy car, drop to your knees and whisper, "Thank you, God, for showing me this simple, step-by-step guide to prime time success but couldn't we have done this without the teaching hospital?"

LOS ANGELES -- Charlie Sheen was fired Monday from "Two and a Half Men" by Warner Bros. Television following repeated misbehavior and weeks of the actor's angry, often-manic media campaign against his studio bosses.

The move was taken after "careful consideration" and is effective immediately, the studio said in a statement. No decision has been made on the show's future without its star, said Paul McGuire, a Warner spokesman.

The actor, who has used TV, radio and social media to create a big megaphone for himself, was not silent for long.

In a text to The Associated Press, Sheen responded, with the F-word and "They lose," followed by the word "Trolls." Asked if he planned to sue, Sheen texted back, "Big." As for his next move, Sheen texted, "A big one."

A call to his attorney, Marty Singer, for comment was not immediately returned.

Star Wants To Hire Intern With 'TigerBlood'

Sheen might be out of work, but he's hiring.

Shortly before CBS announced Monday that it had fired Sheen from "Two and a Half Men," the actor tweeted Monday that he wants to hire an intern to assist him. The tweet is a paid-for endorsement from the year-old website Internships.com.

"I'm looking to hire a winning INTERN with TigerBlood," read the message.

The posting on Internships.com describes the position as a paid, eight-week job for the summer to "work closely with Charlie Sheen in leveraging his social network."

The application form isn't exactly extensive: Applicants must summarize themselves in 75 characters or less.

The partnership was arranged by start-up ad.ly, which connects celebrities with advertisers for social media ads. Sheen has officially signed on with ad.ly after the Beverly Hills-based company consulted with him last week to familiarize him with Twitter.

Asked whether Internships.com had any reservations about partnering with Sheen, CEO Robin Richards replied, "Charlie Sheen is an A-list actor for seven years in a row."

"We thought we could really highlight and help students and companies realize that this resource was available for them," says Richards, who is also an ad.ly board member.

Ad.ly earlier helped Sheen join Twitter and get his account immediately verified so that users could separate the real Sheen from the many copycat accounts. Sheen took little more than a day to reach 1 million followers, a record. He had more than 2 million followers as of Monday afternoon.

All the attention has brought a huge amount of exposure to the business of social media advertising. Though companies have been working advertisements into Twitter and Facebook for more than two years, it's a sometimes unnoticed practice.

"A lot of people know about the business now," says Ad.ly CEO Arnie Gullov-Singh. "It's a validation of the business that we're building and the overall industry changes that we're a part of."

Micro-endorsements can net a celebrity anywhere from $1,000 to the low five figures per tweet, with ad.ly's top celebrities earning about $10,000 per tweet. Ad.ly and Internships.com declined to discuss the financial arrangements of the deal with Sheen. Pricing is frequently structured on the number of clicks an advertiser gets via the ad, with $1-2 per click.

Ad.ly's roster of celebrities with whom it has worked include Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian, Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Paris Hilton and soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. In the last year, it has placed 24,000 endorsements for 150 brands and raised more than $6 million in venture capital.

Last year, ad.ly was behind a tweet sent by Snoop Dogg, sponsoring Toyota: "These homies know the deal. Wonder if this swagger waggon can fit 22's? SPINNIN!"

A staff of 22 includes several workers who specialize in writing such tweets in the voice of the respective celebrity.

Gullov-Singh sees celebrities as "the driving force of social media."

"Brands want to get their arms around social media and celebrities are social media," Gullov-Singh says. "So that's where we set off to connect to the dots and create value."

There are other start-ups with a similar focus, including Izea, Assetize and Magpie. But it's also not only a specialized business, with many individuals and companies making arrangements without a third party.

The Orlando, Fla.-based Izea, founded in 2006, put together a 12-day campaign for Microsoft with Sean "Diddy" Combs sending a Microsoft-tagged message once a day for a week on Facebook and Twitter. It included giveaways, charity donations and an Xbox contest.

"It's got to be relevant to someone's fans or someone's followers," says Dan Rua, chairman of Izea. "The driving effort is really: Make sure the conversation is relevant to the people involved. If you're giving quality, relevant content that gets people excited, then you're going to do all right."

Advertising in social media, though, has its risks. One of social media's most popular characteristics is its seemingly unfettered access to celebrities. Though ads are required to be disclosed, any relationship becomes less personal once someone is hawking Toyotas. But at the same time, entertainers supply a wealth of content to their fans on social media for free.

"There's always a group of people that think everything should be free. That's just naïve," Gullov-Singh says. "When we started ad.ly, our friends at Google looked at us scornfully and said, 'How can you be polluted the stream?' We said, 'Dude, look in the mirror. Look at your company. Your entire business is based on putting ads on everything."

"Celebrities are creating content and they have a right to monetize it," Gullov-Singh adds. "Otherwise, why should they do it?"

Inside each writer is a closet actor, secretly wishing he could suspend the disbelief and actuate the words he penned. Those who do both are the rare breed - achievers of greatness - they are the ones who can credibly stand and deliver the Charlie Sheenism known as "winning". To put it another way, healthy schizophrenia of mind masters who are neither defensive nor offensive for they are the game, a strata far different than the field on which the player lives.

Wrap your mind around that, Charlie Sheen - and allow the afterburners to cool or risk inevitable burnout. Intentional sabotage and the potential for a successful recovery has nothing to do with winning. You rigged your game. You played yourself out. A setup where one can only hope to break even. THAT should be Sheen's mantra. BREAKEVEN. You dig a hole. Jump into it. Climb out. Filll the hole. No gain. If it cost you time and energy - non recoverable assets - then in actuality - you lost. And it's hard to accept losses when you are an achiever. Chant WINNING a million times to yourself - but what is - still is - and those are the FACTS of your life which put you back on track - so the potential to achieve is reborn. Don't say HOPE is for losers - unless you can include yourself. For the narcissist - it is difficult at best, but more likely near impossible to see through the eyes of another and understand empathism. Actors do it as make believe - and as believable as possible - justified as the cost of fame and fortune.

Beyond the spotlight is where you are truly defined - not condemned - though as you judge others through your perception, you too, are judged, A natural human trait. The definition is the key and the larger the controversy is over it proves out the adage that the "truth lies somewhere in the middle". You cannot ever force your own definition upon someone with the expectation of it being swallowed whole. So, Mr. Sheen - get over it - I mean - get over yourself. Give yourself and us all a break - and fans will pay - friends will stay - and your family will be with you right on through old age and beyond - for them you're defined by their memories. For you - you self define ultimately in the transition period of a moment - your last conscious one - between life and death. I hope you are satisfied with those inevitable thoughts to come. Those before us have been there and everyone else is heading there. If it's what you think about yourself that counts the most, and it is - remember foresight - for that is the vision you need to assure yourself of an inner smile of peace as you exit life.

How to Discover Your Life Purpose in About 20 Minutes

How do you discover your real purpose in life? I’m not talking about your job, your daily responsibilities, or even your long-term goals. I mean the real reason why you’re here at all — the very reason you exist.

Perhaps you’re a rather nihilistic person who doesn’t believe you have a purpose and that life has no meaning. Doesn’t matter. Not believing that you have a purpose won’t prevent you from discovering it, just as a lack of belief in gravity won’t prevent you from tripping. All that a lack of belief will do is make it take longer, so if you’re one of those people, just change the number 20 in the title of this blog entry to 40 (or 60 if you’re really stubborn). Most likely though if you don’t believe you have a purpose, then you probably won’t believe what I’m saying anyway, but even so, what’s the risk of investing an hour just in case?

Here’s a story about Bruce Lee which sets the stage for this little exercise. A master martial artist asked Bruce to teach him everything Bruce knew about martial arts. Bruce held up two cups, both filled with liquid. “The first cup,” said Bruce, “represents all of your knowledge about martial arts. The second cup represents all of my knowledge about martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with my knowledge, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge.”

If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).

So how to discover your purpose in life? While there are many ways to do this, some of them fairly involved, here is one of the simplest that anyone can do. The more open you are to this process, and the more you expect it to work, the faster it will work for you. But not being open to it or having doubts about it or thinking it’s an entirely idiotic and meaningless waste of time won’t prevent it from working as long as you stick with it — again, it will just take longer to converge.

Here’s what to do:

1. Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).
2. Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”
3. Write an answer (any answer) that pops into your head. It doesn’t have to be a complete sentence. A short phrase is fine.
4. Repeat step 3 until you write the answer that makes you cry. This is your purpose.

That’s it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a counselor or an engineer or a bodybuilder. To some people this exercise will make perfect sense. To others it will seem utterly stupid. Usually it takes 15-20 minutes to clear your head of all the clutter and the social conditioning about what you think your purpose in life is. The false answers will come from your mind and your memories. But when the true answer finally arrives, it will feel like it’s coming to you from a different source entirely.

For those who are very entrenched in low-awareness living, it will take a lot longer to get all the false answers out, possibly more than an hour. But if you persist, after 100 or 200 or maybe even 500 answers, you’ll be struck by the answer that causes you to surge with emotion, the answer that breaks you. If you’ve never done this, it may very well sound silly to you. So let it seem silly, and do it anyway.

As you go through this process, some of your answers will be very similar. You may even re-list previous answers. Then you might head off on a new tangent and generate 10-20 more answers along some other theme. And that’s fine. You can list whatever answer pops into your head as long as you just keep writing.

At some point during the process (typically after about 50-100 answers), you may want to quit and just can’t see it converging. You may feel the urge to get up and make an excuse to do something else. That’s normal. Push past this resistance, and just keep writing. The feeling of resistance will eventually pass.

You may also discover a few answers that seem to give you a mini-surge of emotion, but they don’t quite make you cry — they’re just a bit off. Highlight those answers as you go along, so you can come back to them to generate new permutations. Each reflects a piece of your purpose, but individually they aren’t complete. When you start getting these kinds of answers, it just means you’re getting warm. Keep going.

It’s important to do this alone and with no interruptions. If you’re a nihilist, then feel free to start with the answer, “I don’t have a purpose,” or “Life is meaningless,” and take it from there. If you keep at it, you’ll still eventually converge.

When I did this exercise, it took me about 25 minutes, and I reached my final answer at step 106. Partial pieces of the answer (mini-surges) appeared at steps 17, 39, and 53, and then the bulk of it fell into place and was refined through steps 100-106. I felt the feeling of resistance (wanting to get up and do something else, expecting the process to fail, feeling very impatient and even irritated) around steps 55-60. At step 80 I took a 2-minute break to close my eyes, relax, clear my mind, and to focus on the intention for the answer to come to me — this was helpful as the answers I received after this break began to have greater clarity.

Here was my final answer: to live consciously and courageously, to resonate with love and compassion, to awaken the great spirits within others, and to leave this world in peace.

When you find your own unique answer to the question of why you’re here, you will feel it resonate with you deeply. The words will seem to have a special energy to you, and you will feel that energy whenever you read them.

Discovering your purpose is the easy part. The hard part is keeping it with you on a daily basis and working on yourself to the point where you become that purpose.

If you’re inclined to ask why this little process works, just put that question aside until after you’ve successfully completed it. Once you’ve done that, you’ll probably have your own answer to why it works. Most likely if you ask 10 different people why this works (people who’ve successfully completed it), you’ll get 10 different answers, all filtered through their individual belief systems, and each will contain its own reflection of truth.

Obviously, this process won’t work if you quit before convergence. I’d guesstimate that 80-90% of people should achieve convergence in less than an hour. If you’re really entrenched in your beliefs and resistant to the process, maybe it will take you 5 sessions and 3 hours, but I suspect that such people will simply quit early (like within the first 15 minutes) or won’t even attempt it at all. But if you’re drawn to read this blog (and haven’t been inclined to ban it from your life yet), then it’s doubtful you fall into this group.

Give it a shot! At the very least, you’ll learn one of two things: your true purpose in life -or- that you should unsubscribe from this blog.

It is a slow day in the East Texas town of Madisonville . It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich tourist from the East is driving through town. He enters the only hotel in the sleepy town and lays a hundred dollar bill on the desk stating he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

As soon as the man walks up the stairs, the hotel proprietor takes the hundred dollar bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to pay his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer then takes the $100 and heads off to pay his debt to the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmer’s Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute who has also been facing hard times and has lately had to offer her "services" on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel and pays off her debt with the $100 to the hotel proprietor paying for the rooms that she had rented when she brought clients to that establishment.

The hotel proprietor then lays the $100 bill back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler from the East walks back down the stairs after inspecting the rooms. He picks up the $100 bill and states that the rooms are not satisfactory. Pockets the money and walks out the door and leaves town.

No one earned anything.

However the whole town is now out of debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

That ladies and gentlemen is how the United States Government is conducting business today.

Padilla Offers To Post $1.35 Million Bail For Misty Croslin

Some thoughts regarding Leonard Padilla, the west coast Bounty Hunter / Bondsman offering to bail Misty Croslin out of jail - and the benefit it would provide in finding Haleigh Cummings.

Misty Croslin has no conception YET as to the magnitude of trouble that she is already in - nor do her parents - obviously, as in her mind it would take just $10,000 to get out of jail (10% of $50,000! - these people are beyond stupid).

She could not appreciate or conceive that based on her bond of $1,350,000 it would cost at minimum $135,000 (plus collateral) for her release, and she would have to come up with either a dead or an alive Haleigh or be put right back in jail. The benefit goes to Padilla - more free publicity for signing his name guaranteeing payment should Misty flee (highly unlikely).

So let's avoid this circus - and let Misty and Co. sit just where they are - and whenever the lightbulb in her little brain comes on - and she goes OMG!, I have nothing to lose by telling everything I know, only then will justice for Haleigh triumph all the self serving profiteers who want to make names for themselves off the back of this innocent little child.

In my opinion, there is no benefit in the quest for justice - to bail out Misty Croslin. She has admitted to her father in the recently released jailhouse video of their visit that she sold prescription drugs eight or nine times to the undercover Putnam County cop, thereby sealing her fate - which leads her directly to prison. If she is fortunate to qualify under the Youthful Offender Act, she can expect up to 6 years. If she doesn't, she can expect to spend a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for each of the 8 counts - potentially up to a life sentence.

If the State Attorneys Office in Putnam County wants to play Major League hardball with her, and if Misty does have knowledge as to what really happened to Haleigh, she would have absolutely nothing to lose by talking.

Misty Croslin Cummings Cries "I want outta here" To Mom In Jailhouse Video

10% of $50,000 is $10,000? "Mama, I want outta here..." Oh boy! Misty Croslin is a long way from going anywhere except perhaps transferred back to the Putnam County Jail. Additional charges against Misty have been filed Feb 02, 2010 - raising her bond amount from $950,000 to $1,350,000. So, @ $1.35 million - 10% by my calculator is $135,000 - plus collateral… So, will the person willing to post this amount please raise their hand? Hmmm. Don’t see anyone for miles! Oh wait - you! Yeah you - thought we missed ya, didn’t ya? Guard, please get this man a straightjacket!
And just by chance that Misty get’s her bond lowered to say, $50k, will the idiot who would put up the $5,000 to bail her out come up to the front of the room and get fitted - we got a straightjacket for you too, after your spanking.

Social Responsibility & Haleigh Cummings

Some thoughts that come to mind when I think about Haleigh Cummings and Caylee Anthony and other children that have gone missing - and robbed of life;

THE WORLD THAT HALEIGH CUMMINGS WAS BORN INTO

The convolution to sort through over a simple single event of a child gone missing – is mind boggling, when it would only take one person to just come forward with the truth.

The lengths that people connected to this case have gone to obscure and cloud the discovery of Haleigh is a shining example of just how damaging drug abuse is to an innocent child born in its’ midst.

It is the core cause of this case from the beginning and I firmly believe that society as a whole has a social responsibility to these innocent children, not only to report drug addicted parents to the authorities, but a greater responsibility for the judges who oversee and administer the law to ensure that these unfit drug addicts “parents” lose their right to “raise” and “influence” their offspring and are additionally prevented from bringing any more children into the world and continuing this cycle of abuse.

Only by cutting off the poison tree branch from the trunk can society hope to foresee a future of health and optimistic possibilities – a scenario which has been in decay and decline for way too long. I believe in second chances, but there comes a time when enough is simply enough – and in this case. enough was enough a long time ago.

Let’s keep up the good fight, society. A socially responsible person’s concern is about bettering the environment they live in, no matter what it takes in spite of what the irresponsible says, thinks or feels. Just because they live in fear of being found out doesn’t mean that they should enable us to fear them, either by retaliation – or by any other means.
It’s time courage takes the lead – and “right” outweighs “might”.

And hopefully, there will be less Haleigh’s and Caylee’s in the world to worry about – and the norm of having a child a day gone missing will be a thing of the past. All it takes to care for a child that you may think is in harms way – is to make a simple phone call. A proactive stance – before the damage is done is the only way to protect and insure our most valuable investment in societies future.

There is definitely a great argument to be made that these parallel investigations are connected – and rightly so. The environment that Haleigh was subjected to was not just of an irresponsible drug dealing father – but more one of an entire family participating in a lifestyle which clearly includes drug abuse and criminal activity.

Every single member of the Cummings and Croslin clan are tainted and intermeshed – and in a climate such as this, an innocent child is bred into nothing less than a risky lifestyle – ripe, because of the nature of it’s characters involved – where a “disappearance” such as this occurs.

If this were medicine, it would be called cancer – and the treatment would be to remove it. all of it. In this case, unfortunately, the only removal possible is by long term incarceration at the taxpayers expense (and a heavy one at that) in the hopes of educating discouraging others who may be on the same path as this “family” of unproductive citizens.

CROSLIN CUMMINGS DRUG BUST - WHO'S GONNA TALK FIRST?

In legal circles, it’s a well known fact that in cases like these the one who first talks, walks. Although I firmly believe that it was Ronalds cousin, Hope Sykes who first flipped and introduced her “friend”, the undercover PCSO, to Misty as a way to get out of her drug possession arrest of Jan 3, (and without letting Ronald in on it) – LE had a strategy targeting Misty as it is believed that she has the knowledge regarding what really happened to Haleigh. Incidental to setting Misty up, Misty herself participated with her brother Tommy, ex Ronald, and friend Brock to facilitate the transactions, all who had no clue as to the true identity of the undercover officer. Hope Sykes on the other hand, facilitated the initial introduction, knowing full well that she too would be “arrested” as well, so as have plausible deniability regarding this, and it will be no surprise to see Sykes walk from this as she no doubt fulfilled her obligation to provide “substantial assistance to LE” as it’s written in the law and often used.

Unless Misty comes clean and does so quickly, her remaining co defendants, obviously furious with her at this point will start talking themselves – and it will be interesting what new light will be shed regarding Haleighs disappearance. With a conviction and a potential sentence tantamount to life in prison on these drug charges, Misty can only help herself by coming clean and if she did take part in Haleigh’s disappearance – the resulting sentence, can, based on the circumstamces – could amount to less time for her.
So for her sake, Misty Croslin needs to “man up” clear her conscience, tell the whole truth and hope for some closure. Her goose is as good as cooked already – so at this point she has absolutely nothing to lose – especially if she didn’t take part – but knows who did.

Also, there is a video on YouTube comprised mainly of audio by an unidentified male suggesting there is an effort by some philanthropic entity to bond Misty and Ronald out of jail. I could swear it sounded like Cobra. This looks be a very sobering and revealing next couple of months.

COULD CASEY ANTHONY BE EXECUTED?

In its' zeal to uncover the truth, and perhaps save the taxpayers of Florida the exorbitant cost of a lengthy trial which circumstantially clearly shows Casey Anthony to have perpetrated this crime, the State Attorney of Orlando has opted to gamble and seek the death penalty, hoping that in the light of reality and reason, Ms. Anthony might admit to killing her daughter Caylee. This is an all out effort by the State to afford Casey an opportunity to "come clean", and in some sense allow for a dignified end to this dramatic circus that has been playing out in the public domain non stop since July of 2008. Ultimately, Casey may be spared the death penalty after the guilt phase of her trial has ended. And it will end, no doubt, with a guilty verdict. The penalty phase proves to be just as titillating to the public's thirst for knowledge as it will delve into the personal details of Casey's past, as well as that of her family. What I find amazing though, is the fact that by building one lie on top of another, justice can be delayed as each lie is thoroughly dissected ad nauseum causing what can only be best described as "reasonable confusion" under the guise of "reasonable doubt". Cindy and George face the ultimate paradoxical dilemma here, and sadly they will serve a life sentence of shame as their daughter serves a life sentence behind bars, for engaging in the deception, forever remembered as one couple who "couldn't handle the truth".

DEPUTY BEATS 15 YEAR OLD GIRL - FACING CHARGES

BEATING CAUGHT ON POLICE VIDEO

The case goes beyond police misconduct, County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said in a prepared statement.

"It's about criminal misconduct. And that's why he needs to be prosecuted," he said.

The video of the Nov. 29 incident was disclosed Friday, one day after Deputy Paul Schene, 31, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault in King County District Court.

Schene, an eight-year veteran, works out of Precinct 4, which covers SeaTac, Burien and high crime areas in White Center and Skyway.

He is the third sheriff's deputy since 2006 to face charges on allegations of excessive force. All three are from the Burien precinct.

A detective assigned to the girl's case discovered the video Dec. 1 and immediately forwarded it to supervisors.

The Seattle P-I requested a copy of the holding cell video and all reports from the incident under the state's open records law. A judge on Thursday denied a request from Schene's attorney to bar the video from public disclosure.

"We take this very seriously and we're very concerned about this," sheriff's Sgt. Jim Laing said Friday. An internal investigation would begin after the criminal case is finished.

The girl was arrested after she was caught in her parents' car, which had been reported stolen from her parents' Tukwila home. Deputy Travis Brunner spotted the car driving without headlights about 3:45 a.m. on 32nd Avenue South in SeaTac and pulled it over.

She and another 15-yearold girl were arrested and taken to SeaTac City Hall to be fingerprinted before being transported to the youth detention center.

The P-I is not naming the girl because she is a minor.

The deputies apparently didn't know until later that the girl, who was in the passenger seat, was related to the car's owner.

"We had argued strenuously that the videotape released to the media this morning not be released because it does not tell the whole story of the incident," attorney Anne Bremner said in a statement.

"As we argued to the judge, it will inflame public opinion and will severely impact the deputy's right to a fair trial."

The video shows Schene and Brunner as they escorted the girl into the holding cell. Schene had asked her to remove her basketball shoes, and, as she slipped out of her left shoe, she appeared to kick it at Schene.

Schene then lunged through the door and kicked her, striking either her stomach or upper thigh area, court documents say. He pushed her against a corner wall before flinging her to the floor by her hair. He then squatted down on her and made "two overhead strikes," although it's unclear where the blows landed.

The detective who reviewed the video said it appeared Schene and Brunner had the girl under control when Schene struck her. Schene, who is 6 feet 2 and weighs 195 pounds, did not explain his action to investigators, court documents say.

He and the girl exchanged words. Brunner said she was "real lippy" after being informed she was under arrest and called them "fat pigs."

The Sheriff's Office policy manual says deputies should use physical or deadly force only when "necessary to effect an arrest, to defend themselves or others from violence, or to otherwise accomplish police duties according to law."

Schene could face up to a year in jail if convicted. He has been on administrative leave since early December.

The girl said that she couldn't breathe after the incident, prompting the deputies to call paramedics.

Paramedics decided that she didn't require hospitalization. Felony charges require proof of serious injury.

"If the matter were to go to trial, he could face additional charges," said Ian Goodhew, deputy chief of staff in the Prosecutor's Office.

In his own report from the incident, Schene wrote that the shoe hit him in the right shin, "causing injury and pain." He wrote that he "placed" her into handcuffs and that she needed medical attention for a "panic attack."

He said a "blood filled pocket" formed on his shin, requiring treatment at Auburn General Hospital, according to his report. The video, however, appears to show his shin strike a metal toilet as he pushes the girl against the wall.

The girl told investigators that she didn't intend for the shoe to hit him, court documents say.

Schene had previously been in the news in 2006 after he fatally shot Pedro Jo, a mentally ill man, during a struggle after a traffic stop on Interstate 5. It was the second officer-involved shooting of his career.

An inquest jury ruled the shooting was justified. Jo viciously attacked Schene, trying to strangle him with his own radio cord.

Jo then ran back to his car and disobeyed Schene's orders to stop. Schene said he saw Jo reach for something in the seat, so Schene fired 11 times after Jo ran back to his car.

Shortly after the shooting while on administrative leave, Schene was stopped for driving under the influence.

He had been drinking and taking prescription medication, according to court records. He received a deferred sentence and was placed on probation, records show.

Schene works in an urban precinct with higher rates of violent crime and gang activity than other precincts. Officers assigned there more often report having to use physical force in arrest situations, Laing said.

Schene is the second officer from the precinct in three months to face charges. In addition, a third deputy, Brian Bonnar, was acquitted in January of civil rights violations during a trial in U.S. District Court. Bonnar, who patrolled in the precinct, was accused by other deputies of using excessive force on a woman who'd been restrained after a high-speed pursuit.

Legal costs for Bonnar's private attorneys, David Allen and Todd Maybrown, as well as lawyer costs for other deputies involved, cost the county's insurer $315,000, according to records the P-I obtained.

In December, Deputy Don Griffee was charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly punching a handcuffed male suspect. The state Attorney General's Office is prosecuting the case.

JOSEPH BEARDEN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN SLAYING OF RYAN SKIPPER

Sentencing was swift by Judge J. Michael Hunter in the Murder trial of Joseph Eli (Smiley) Bearden, 23. He imposed the maximum sentences allowable under the law as punishment for his involvement in the brutal slaying of a Florida gay man, Ryan Skipper, who at the time of his death was 25.

At 3:30 PM,unmoved by the pleas of Bearden's mother, Pastor, and the defendant himself, Judge Hunter sentenced Bearden to LIFE in a Florida State Prison for 2nd deg Murder, 5 yrs for Theft of a Motor Vehicle, 15 yrs for Accessory After the Fact / Robbery, 5 yrs for Tampering with Evidence, and 15 yrs for Dealing in Stolen Property. All sentences are to be served concurrently.

When asked if he wanted to make a statement before sentence was pronounced, Bearden apologized to the Skipper family, yet maintained that he was nowhere near where the murder took place, took no part in the slaying of Ryan Skipper and asserted that the man who did the crime was "still walking the street". Though he didn't, in his statement, mention any particular individual, based upon previous testimony and statements of witnesses, he was obviously referring to Ray Allen Brown, a cousin to William David Brown, Jr., the co-defendant in this case, whose trial will begin later this year.

In handing down his sentence, Judge Hunter stated to Bearden that he believed that this was a crime motivated by robbery and hate, due to Skippers homosexuality, and that Bearden had much more involvement in the crime than he admitted to.

JOSEPH BEARDEN GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS IN AN ILLOGICAL VERDICT

Joseph Bearden, the first of two men accused in the hate crime murder of Ryan Keith Skipper, has been found guilty on all counts. A jury found Bearden guilty of second-degree murder, theft of a motor vehicle, accessory after the fact to robbery with a weapon, tampering with evidence, and dealing in stolen property.

In March 2007, Skipper's body was found by the side of a rural road in central Florida with more than 20 stab wounds. His car and laptop had been stolen. The car was abandoned and recovered by authorites, who reported that the assailants had attempted to set it on fire but did not succeed. They had also cut out a seat belt because it was so bloody they couldn't clean it.

Bearden, 21, and William David Brown Jr., 20, were later arrested and indicted for the killing. A witness brought in by authorities at the time told police that Brown had killed Skipper because he was gay.

Brown is to be tried at a later date on charges of first-degree murder and robbery.

COMMENTARY:

This verdict makes no logical LEGAL sense. By failing to convict on the underlying Robbery charge, the predicate for FELONY MURDER, how this jury can vote to convict for 2nd deg Murder is beyond reason. Further, due to the underlying charge of Robbery being a predicate for a charge of FELONY MURDER, there needn't have been any lessers uncluded in the Murder indictment. By convicting on Theft of a Motor Vehicle, there should have been a NOT GUILTY verdict on the 1st DEG or FELONY MURDER charge. There should have been no option for lesser included offenses on the top charge. Hopefully the Appeals Court will reverse the 2nd Deg Murder charge and direct the court to re-try this case on that basis, and other appealable issues.
The jury felt sympathy for the Defendant and spared his life, when they should have applied the law to the evidence. This is an illogical and erroneous decision on their part.
